Community Gardens Brightening Forsyth County

In Forsyth County, the spirit of community flourishes in over 90 gardens tended by dedicated volunteers. Thanks to support from the Winston-Salem Foundation, these gardens thrive in various locations, including schools, churches, and community centers, each contributing to the well-being of the area.

Matthew Scoggins, proudly displaying rows of plants off Fairchild Road, emphasizes the gardens’ multifaceted benefits. “Some focus on vegetables, others on flowers or pollinators. The produce often supports local food banks,” he explains. Beyond food production, the gardens serve as educational hubs and foster a sense of togetherness. Volunteers gain valuable skills, and the initiative promotes sustainable practices. For those interested in joining, the Forsyth County Community Gardening homepage offers opportunities to volunteer or become a gardening mentor.
