VinFast’s North Carolina Plant Faces Another Delay

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is reportedly considering further delays for its $4 billion plant in Chatham County. According to a recent Reuters report, construction, initially set to begin in 2024 and later postponed to 2025, might be pushed back again due to ongoing permitting and planning issues.

Despite VinFast’s assurances last month that the Moncure plant was on schedule, progress has been minimal. Local officials, including Chatham County Planning Board member Eric Andrews, have expressed surprise at the slow pace of development. With plans downsized and key permits still under review, the future timeline for the plant remains uncertain. This delay impacts the region’s anticipated economic growth, although county leaders remain optimistic about continued strong interest and investment in the area.
