The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.5% in August, down from 3.6% in July. The number of unemployed North Carolinians also declined, from roughly 186,000 in July to 182,000 in August.

North Carolina’s labor market also continued to add jobs over the past year. The state had approximately 65,600 more nonfarm jobs than a year earlier, one of the largest increases among U.S. states.

The latest numbers put North Carolina below the national unemployment rate of 4.1% in August. The next statewide employment and unemployment report, covering September, is scheduled for release on October 20.

For workers and businesses across the state, the figures offer another snapshot of a labor market that has continued to grow even as the broader U.S. economy has experienced a slower pace of job creation.
