The second annual Ground Steak Festival is set to delight food enthusiasts on June 8 in downtown Dobson, celebrating the unique legacy of the ground steak sandwich. This event promises a blend of bluegrass and old-time music, handmade crafts, kids’ activities, and, of course, the beloved ground steak sandwich.

The festival highlights the local culinary tradition dating back to the Great Depression, where cooks transformed ground beef into a tender patty served with mayonnaise, slaw, and tomato. Known for its rich history in Surry County, the ground steak sandwich has a loyal following, particularly at local events like the Autumn Leaves Festival. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the music and crafts at Dobson Square Park. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and admission is free.
