Cumberland County is poised to welcome a new solar manufacturing company, potentially bringing 815 full-time jobs to the area by 2028. The County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on June 17 to discuss the proposed Economic Development Incentive for “Project Smartie,” which plans to invest over $159 million in real estate and equipment. The proposed site for the facility is an existing building on Corporation Drive.

Robert Van Geons, President and CEO of the Fayetteville Cumberland Economic Development Center, highlighted the significance of the project, stating it aligns with the county’s goals of attracting next-generation jobs and foreign direct investment. The county’s incentive offer includes a grant of up to $3.5 million over five years. The public is encouraged to attend the hearing and share their views on this significant economic development opportunity.
