Davidson County is taking a significant step towards addressing the growing issue of homelessness among families in the Triad region. A new homeless shelter, spearheaded by Davidson County First Hope Ministries, is set to begin construction in the coming weeks on Robbins Street in Lexington. This long-awaited project will significantly expand the organization’s capacity to provide shelter, aiming to house up to 16 families, compared to the current limit of seven.
The shelter, which has been a vision of Executive Director Ashley Phillips for over five years, has already secured nearly 80% of the $1 million needed for phase one of construction. Future phases will include additional shelter space for 84 men and 24 women, along with administrative offices. Davidson County First Hope Ministries is calling on the community for prayers, donations, and continued support to bring this project to fruition.
