Winston-Salem Dash Claim First-Ever League Championship

The Winston-Salem Dash completed a sweep of the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Tuesday night, taking Game Two of the South Atlantic League Championship Series 2-0 to secure the franchise’s first title in its history. The White Sox High-A affiliate closed out the series at First National Bank Field, capping a dominant postseason run.

Winston-Salem’s pitching staff held Greensboro to just three hits over the deciding game, while the Dash offense chipped away with six hits of its own. Two defensive miscues by the Grasshoppers compounded their struggles at the plate as Winston-Salem controlled the game from start to finish.

The championship caps a breakout year built largely around the White Sox organization’s pipeline of prospects, several of whom played key roles throughout the playoff run rather than just the finale. It’s the first time in franchise history the Dash have claimed the league crown.

For Greensboro, the loss ends a season that included a divisional series win over the Frederick Keys just days earlier, a result that had carried the Grasshoppers into the championship round in the first place.
