Sampson Community College recently screened The Singing Senator, a documentary highlighting the life and career of former N.C. Senator Charlie Albertson. Directed by Denver Hollingsworth, the documentary captures Albertson’s dual roles as a country music singer and a longtime state legislator. The screening was followed by a Q&A, where Albertson reflected on his experiences in government and his love for Sampson County, a place he fondly described as “a really good county.”

During the event, Albertson shared personal stories, including his inspiration for entering politics, crediting his father’s community involvement. Hollingsworth and audience members engaged with Albertson, asking about his travels and his unique career journey. The documentary continues to gain attention, with screenings planned in counties Albertson represented.
