Housing Crunch in Pinehurst as US Open Approaches

With the 124th U.S. Open set to return to Pinehurst, local homeowners are stepping in to accommodate the surge of visitors. The limited hotel availability in Moore County, fully booked since last year, has prompted residents to list their homes for rent between June 10 and June 16. The anticipated influx of golf fans, estimated at 35,000 to 45,000 people daily, has driven up rental prices significantly. Smaller homes are being rented for $12,000 to $15,000 for the week, while larger properties can fetch up to $50,000.

This short-term rental boom is also expected to benefit the state financially, thanks to the sales and hotel taxes applied to rentals under 90 days. Additionally, rental properties in nearby cities like Raleigh and Charlotte are expected to see increased bookings. As the tournament, running through Father’s Day, draws near, the economic impact on the region is poised to be substantial, providing a significant boost to local businesses and the broader community.
