In an effort to boost student enrollment, Guilford County Schools has introduced a new initiative called “GCS Flex,” aimed at drawing homeschool students into high school classrooms. The program allows homeschoolers to enroll part-time in advanced courses, join sports and clubs, and take advantage of other school resources. This new marketing strategy comes in response to declining enrollment numbers in the district and the growing trend of homeschooling across the state.
Superintendent Whitney Oakley highlighted that the flexibility offered by GCS Flex meets the needs of families seeking more educational choices post-pandemic. About 50 students have already enrolled for the upcoming school year, with the district continuing to accept applications. The program not only provides more opportunities for students but also helps the district secure vital state funding tied to student attendance.
